Present the book with precision.
Literary agent submission support for fiction writers, including query letter editing, synopsis feedback and a review of your opening pages. Bring your submission package together once your novel is ready to approach agents.
A strong manuscript can still be weakened by the way it is presented.
Agents need to understand the book quickly: its premise, readership, stakes, voice and commercial place. The submission package must convey those things accurately without flattening the novel into slogans or promising a different book from the one on the page.
I assess the package as a connected whole, refining each element while keeping the manuscript’s actual strengths at the centre.
Opening pages
An editorial assessment of the opening’s clarity, pace, voice, character focus and ability to establish narrative momentum.
Query and pitch
Close editing of the query letter and concise pitch so that premise, stakes and relevant credentials emerge clearly.
Synopsis and strategy
Support with synopsis structure, comparable titles, positioning and a thoughtful approach to the submission process.
Readiness comes first.
I will not disguise a manuscript that still needs foundational work. If the opening or wider novel is not yet ready, I will say so clearly and explain what should happen before submission. That honesty protects both the book and the opportunity.
The aim is not to make the package sound impressive. It is to make the right agent want to read the manuscript.
Questions about agent submissions
What should I have ready before we begin?
A draft query letter, a synopsis and your opening pages give us something concrete to work with. They don’t need to be polished. Tell me your genre, total word count and where you are in the submission process when you get in touch.
Does this include an edit of the whole novel?
No. This service focuses on the submission package and opening pages. If you’re unsure about the wider story, an editorial assessment can help you assess the complete manuscript. For detailed comments throughout the novel as well as a report, see developmental editing.
Can you guarantee that I’ll get an agent?
No editor can promise representation. What I can do is help you present your book clearly, strengthen the opening and make sure your query and synopsis reflect the manuscript. An agent’s decision will also depend on their taste, list and what they’re looking for at the time.
